I went to one of the best I have ever heard yesterday. It was the Dr. John concert at the Folly Theater. It’s amazing what one can do when they have been playing for over 40 years. His whole band was quite talented though. It was a 3 1/2 hr concert and it seemed like it had only been about a half hr. He was a great showman and really worked to make sure the whole audience was into the concert. His talent was quite apparent to everyone there. He would start off a song playing on his piano, then he would rotate on his stool and play the organ that was behind him with one hand, while still playing the piano. Afterwhile he would switch to just playing the organ for while then switch back to the piano. All of this was done WHILE HE WAS SINGING!!! His bass player, David Barard, was a true was master of his craft. He was using about 4-5 different styles to play and was seemlessly changing between them. I was lucky enough to talk to him afterwards and he gave me some words of encouragement and some pointers.

Dr. John’s drummer, Hermen Ernest, was fabulous as well, he was also the comic relief of the band as well. He introduced Dr. John and did several different backup vocal sections. His playing was quite impressive. He would shift styles flawlessly, and when he soloed it cool as hell unlike some drummers who just sound like they are just beating around on drums he would actually sounded like he was musical. He could shift tempo and time then snap back into the original beat of the song.

The lead guitarist, john Fohl, was very good as well, however, it kind of felt as if he was just a bit out of sync with the rest of the band but it wasn’t very bad and you REALLY had to be paying attention to even notice it.

All in all it was a stellar concert if you have a chance go see him live!! I give the concert a 9.5 out of 10. Well thats all for now.

So ya. Apparently I can’t do anything right :( The man (Aaron) has informed me that I must keep my posting within his restrictions. So my post name will now be deines and the correct spelling of my nickname is now “Deinesaur”. By the way I have decided that “Robot Chicken” is one of the greatest shows around. WATCH ROBOT CHICKEN!!! It’s the only good show on adult swim sundays!!! But I’m going to get a beer so thats all I have for tonight. Peace out Deines

It is a sad day today. Music has truely lost one of its greatest artists. Chris LeDoux died today at the age of 56. Why is it that truely gifted musicial geniuses such as LeDoux die so young but the Toby Keiths, and Alan Jacksons of the world just seem to stick around forever? It’s just not right, but I suppose some questions are best left unanwered. You can expect the band to be playing more LeDoux in the future.

Well enough sad stuff for now. I’m Chris Deines the band’s bassist. Better known as “The Dinosaur” by my coworkers. I will be laying down the smooth beats for the band and giving Traffas’ songs that special funky sound that only a bassist can. I’m also the comic relief of the band, as well as the Topeka branch of it. I will leave you with these words that I saw on a Virgin Mobile commerical. “Never leave your bathtub unattended for it will undo the towels and waste toilet paper.”

I don’t know what would more appropriately fit the Melancholy News topic. Rarely do I truely grieve for the loss of a non-family member.

Chris LeDoux passed away today.

While I’ve disagreed with most of the Nashville reformation of country music, Chris LeDoux has always been one of my favorites. He sang songs about true country topics and had the experience to back it up. I truely enjoyed his music.

Ethics

I have an acquaintance who had a friend write a paper for him on the subject of ethics.

I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon on the side of I70 at mile marker 201. I lost my transmission, God rest it’s worthless soul, and I took the time to clean out my truck, sort and tape all my cords–all with heavy traffic wondering what the hell I was doing as it whizzed by at 75 mph only 40″ away.

Hays was good on Friday and we’re headed back on April fool’s day. Thanks to the group of people who recognized both Son Volt and JD Crowe. It’s people like you who make it worth my while.
