We had a great show at Bobby T’s on Friday. Thanks so much to everyone who tuned in to the broadcast. Thanks to Ty and Rob, our friends from San Francisco, who called in with credit cards to buy us rounds of drinks from several states away.

Thus ends the three-day weekend of relaxation. Today was the best day by far. Erica ate with us this morning and when I dropped her off she ended up with both of my cell phones. There is an unexplainable sense of peace that accompanies the knowledge that nobody can contact you.

It’s weird having Erica here and Megan gone. My sisters are quite similar and yet quite different. I’m excited to get to know her as I got to know Megan.

I’m watching Chelsea Lately with Lucas and Diane and plugging away at finishing the new shows section of the website. My mother was in town all day Saturday and never contacted me because she thought I was in Omaha because that’s what my website said. We had booked a show there and when I Twittered regarding its cancellation I never got around to updating the convoluted event calendar that was nailed on top of Wordpress. That’s all fixed now, as the new shows section now includes all shows, both upcoming and past - all the way back to the first launch of the site when Trevor Burgess and I were playing at Fats.

I’m typing away on my Apple slim aluminum keyboard. It’s the one I poured nearly a full cup of coffee into a couple weeks ago. I dried it, wet it, dried it again and when it wouldn’t work I’d left it for dead. A week passed and I tried it one more time and it’s been working well ever since. I guess I bought a pair to have a spare. With all the damn computers around here, I guess it will get plenty of use.

I’m selling my Cloudbook at Thursday’s auction. I couldn’t ever get the wireless to work as well as I wanted, though it seems I’m not the only one. The graphics always seemed weak, though VIA just released an open source driver for it.

I’m currently rocking the ASUS EeePC 900. It’s quite possibly the finest piece of equipment on which I’ve ever laid my hands. I turned it on long enough to hit restart on the Knoppix distribution of Linux so that I could install Ubuntu. I had good luck with Ubuntu-eee as opposed to Eee-Ubuntu. Everything worked pretty much right away. I had to load a different kernel to get the microphone working so I could play with Skype with Diane.

I got Diane an Acer Aspire One as an early birthday present. It’s slightly bigger than my Eee, but the difference in the keyboard size is pretty huge. It also runs Windows XP, which is pretty much a must for her iPod Touch. It was also crazy-cheap, weighing in at $349 at Best Buy.

It seems like John McCain’s Eskimo running mate’s daughter is knocked up. How fun.

I set my alarm this morning to turn on B104.7 at 8:00. It was the first time I’ve used the radio alarm in about 6 years. Anyway, it woke me and I just about beat the bejesus out of my air hockey table. I have it propped up vertically at the foot of my bed because my roommates are poseurs and we’re cramped for room. I’ve had it there for a few months, but this is the first time I thought when I woke up that it was someone standing there with a malicious intent.

I’m sitting here waiting for Pete’s interview on the radio and they’re playing some bastardized version of Angels Among Us. As if that song wasn’t bad enough to begin with they had to throw news coverage excerpts in it and play it TWO YEARS after the fact.

Poor Pete. Man, this girl interviewing him is nutty. Trevor just called. “How did she get into radio with that voice?” It’s pretty bad. Pete is handling himself damn well, considering he’s got a fruitcake interviewing him. She asked him, “what is your primary instrument, would you say?” I know the point of an interview is to get the interviewee to explain the obvious, but that is a little too horrible for even morning radio. She keeps talking about how cute Pete is…in her kindergarten teacher voice…Pete just played Running Low on Angels…smoked it…and
them. Oh my…she just said the music in Texas is “spicy, just like the food.” Jesus. Thank goodness Pete’s kicking ass…

Site fluctuations

I guess this is the final version of the log. The news modules were never really used much on the front page. News can be put up manually with the bio and the remainder of the front page. After advice from Rob, it seems I will not be using Blogger’s service. I was a member for less than 24 hours and it was buggier than Kentucky ditch weed.

My scanner sucks…mainly because I’m only giving it 12 volts when it should have 15. You can see the quality in the pictures from last Tuesday’s Fat’s open mic. Liz took the pictures and I thank her for letting me borrow them. Good shots of Barry, Burgess and me.

Well, enough writing while on the clock.

Just finished the auction. 8:30. We need more merchandise.

Just booked a show at Busters. Rick gave me hell about the hidden track on my CD…He doesn’t like the dead time between I Drink Alone and the last song…his CD changer won’t skip and keep music rolling. I guess he gets a special edition.

I can’t believe I’m so damn poor right at the moment…too much music and not enough hours. I’ve never had such a good two weeks. I’ve realized during the past two weeks how good my friends are and how happy I am with this musical path on which we seem to have embarked seriously sometime within the last month. Thanks to everyone who’s helped me decide how serious I want to be with music (a few: Burgess, Barry, Tyler, Jim, Pete, Weedel, Liz, Darcy, Stacie, Greg, Deines, Rob).

Damn. Shotz sucks. Longhorns told Barry that they left their Texas country at home. We promptly left. I’m glad they put that couple out on their brand new dance floor. I understand why they changed, but I don’t think it’s going to work for them…Matt Church is a good guy, but Longhorn’s notoriety came frome being THE country bar in town. Now it’s just another bar in town. Fat’s is now THE BAR in town. God bless Fat’s bar.

You want to see rambles, check out Mike McClure’s site…crazy son of a bitch…coming back to Manhattan on my birthday. I’ll be there again…hopefully he won’t make fun of me during his set like he did the last time. He’s weird… Bastard. I’m pissed off. Pete’s sticker came off my guitar case. I can’t find it. Pete, if you read this, I’d like another sticker for my Martin case…I’d re-inforce it this time with packing tape…for those of you who don’t have your own packing tape guns, you’re missing out. You should buy one…they’re $10 at Office Depot.

This marks the third time in a row that I haven’t talked to Ryan about booking a show at Fat’s. I guess I’m just waiting for the right moment. I’d like to think that.

I’m working on a new song. It’s about the same person I promised myself I’d never write about again. So much for resolutions.

CD sales are going well. Profitability after 2 1/2 weeks isnt’ bad, especially when it’s being almost given away for $5.00.

Aaron’s opening for Trevor this Friday at JC’s Bar and Grill in Salina. It’d be a nice little road trip and a great show for those of you with little to do.

11 March Auction / Open Mic

I think I still have something. After failing badly on Saturday opening for Trevor, I came out and tore up Guitar Town and nailed the brand new third verse to “200 Miles Away”. I also had a request for, believe it or not, “Doldrums” tonight. I never thought that would happen. All this happened after the worst auction in a long time. We sold 650 lots in 4 1/2 hours. It was a bunch of auctioneers and ringman dancing over a 100 bidder flame. Alan, bless his heart, picked this night to demonstrate how valuable he thought he wasn’t during the auction. We sold most of what we had for a good price, which, in the end, is what every auctioneer strives to do. It wasn’t easy doing it, though, and the two…count them, two…computer failures during the night didn’t make my life any easier. It was so bad that when I was offered time on the stand I refused because I was so tired and jaded. I’m glad I had the open mic to ease my spirits…Oh, by the way, I played for what supposedly was a Capitol Records representative tonight. He had someone with him who played a Ryan Adams song better than Ryan himself played it. I was quite impresesd.
